DUCHAINE LAB
lab of mRNA research

Immunofluorescence on C. elegans embryos to understand trans-acting factors localization and spatiotemporal mRNA regulation.
Word cloud showing RNA research themes: mRNA, RNA interference, microRNA, gene regulation, RBPs, alternative polyadenylation, and therapeutic applications.

Our main research focus is on unraveling the complexities of mRNA. Since 2006, we've been at the forefront of discovering

how RNA interference and microRNA pathways act on mRNA to shape cellular function and influence disease progression.

We are an inter-disciplinary team, combining genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, proteomics, and systems biology. Through our work with C. elegans model system and with mammalian cells, we've made significant contributions to understand:

  • interactions with diverse trans-acting factors in silencing target mRNAs,

  • the diversity of mRNA isoforms established by alternative polyadenylation (APA) signals,

  • fundamental miRNA properties.

Our systems biology approach has enabled us to comprehensively map the interactions between regulatory elements

in the 3' UTRs and trans-acting factors.

Now we are translating this knowledge of fundamental RNA biology to precision medicine and mRNA-based modalities, together with the mRNA Therapeutics platform.
